A weekly game design code club for teens/young people.
We will be using a game design system designed by Mick Chesterman as well as trying out other (free) coding and game-making platforms with a focus on effective design and constantly improving our work. Participants can create their own games and learn new skills, then we play each-other's games.
Once we are happy with our game we start on physical computing, using Makey-Makeys to load our game into a DIY arcade machine.
Each week there will be new challenges and skills demonstrated and facilitated but participants are also free to use the space to work on their own projects.
Computers provided or bring your own.
Access to a Microsoft account will enable participants to save their work and optionally log-in and continue in their own time.
£5 each session or £20 for 5 weeks paid in advance

This is a 2 week taster for what will become a regular weekly code club after Easter, based at the Makery in Todmorden. We had some regulars coming to the code club & Code the Flow in Mytholmroyd before lockdown, but this one is also open to new participants.
This will be an informal session, in-between a workshop and a code club. Each week will start off with led activities which participants can take part in and continue with, or choose to follow their own interests. We will encourage participants to help each other to learn new skills and explore their own interests, with support from the tutor when needed.
The two main activities that we will be offering are:
1) Game Maker. Play a simple game that is slightly broken. Find out how to fix the code to fix the game, then adapt and develop your own game.
2) Crumbles. Using the excellent Crumble controller which involves hardware and basic electronics. We will experiment with multi-coloured LED lights and sensors, building interactive light features.

Back to the party that is Peddler Market with some serious Bass-Buzzing, non-stop Oobleck, Nose Testing (of the squeaky kind) and have-a-go noise contraption Making activities. Electrocute your friends for fun, make a lazer ZAP sound effect with a slinky, feel 1000 watts of bass through your fingers and tickle a dancing goopy alien. It's all pretty weird and fairly noisy too but always fun so bring your kids and don't forget your nose.
