Follow the BOOM and come along to feel 1000 watts of bass power though your fingers, watch some dancing alien Oobleck (corn flour), make laser-blaster sounds with a slinky, find out how sound waves work, and discover amazing sounds hidden in everyday objects.

Plus! Play a mechanical violin, connect your friends to an electrical circuit to find out how squeaky their noses are, and make a Robot Chicken or Auto-Strummer using upcycled computer guts.

And! Soldering, making, crafting, coding, and much much more!

Warning! Mild peril and deviant audio!

With over 20 activities to choose from, this promises to be an absolutely fantastic day out.

1 March 24 – Eureka! Halifax; Home-ed day

12th December 2023 by

Date: 1st March 2024
All-day event
Location: Halifax
play.eureka.org.uk

Workshops for home-educated young people. Booking essential.

We will experiment with familiar instruments and unexpected ones. What does an egg slicer sound like? How about a slinky? A rubber band? A CD ROM drive? A mechanical violin? In groups we will explore the musical potential of everyday objects and strange Noisy Toys, then we will organise our sounds and create original music. Taking it in turns playing in different sections of our orchestra and conducting, beautiful music will flow! Or a horrendous cacophony maybe… This activity will be controlled by an experienced music leader, but it could get noisy at times so we will have a quiet space if needed.

Bass Buzz

Times: 45min sessions at 10:30am, 11:30am. 12:45pm, 1:45pm, 2:45pm, 3:45pm
Age range: 5yrs and over

The UK is the second highest producer of electronic waste per capita in the world, and on track to become the top producer. Yet we are falling behind other countries in support for repair and reuse to tackle throwaway products. Repair and reuse are central to achieving a truly circular, less wasteful, economy. They help to tackle climate change and achieve our net zero ambition, reduce living costs for UK households and create green skilled jobs.

Please follow the lin, sign this declaration and spread the word. Find your local Repair Cafe!
