Audacity

Powerful and free software to edit, mix and alter sounds into a full mix or soundscape.

Download here: https://www.audacityteam.org/

Beginner’s guide on youtube here

You will need some sounds to play with. These can be ripped from a cd, imported, recorded or downloaded. Here are some free sample packs that I made some time ago: https://soundcloud.com/noisytoys/sets/sample-packs-free-to-use-audio

Sonic Pi

This is fantastic (and free!) and we will also be using it in Music. The included tutorials are excellent. Just find them on the bottom left, start with 1, read everything and work through them in order (some of you have already done some). You will learn a lot about coding and about music.

Download here: https://sonic-pi.net/

Download and install Sonic Pi. Find the best speakers or headphones in the house (never turn up headphones fully) and start working through the tutorials, which are excellent. If you have already tried Sonic Pi in music you will still find many tutorial that you have not yet done. Start at the beginning and see what you remember.

Beat Maker

Nice simple way to try ste-sequencing your own beats on a grid. Very easy to use.
