Family-friendly Walkabout – Installations – Workshops for festivals & events
Since 2010 Noisy Toys has featured at many national music festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude, Green Man, Boomtown, Blue Dot, Camper Calling, Camp Bestival, Carfest, Beat Herder, Festival of Thrift. We have also attended many science and STEM events, but this page is focussed on music festivals.
Interactive installation
The Acousatron: a mini area of interactive and anarchic sonic experimentation…
… a monstrosity of an upcycled Noise Contraption.
Ideal for when lots of people want to have a go at doing something themselves (instead of just watching and listening to other people having fun on a stage)
‘Steve and the Noisy Toys crew have been a very popular and lively feature of the kids area at Latitude for the last two years, and attract a constant stream of children and adults into their tent. The team pretend to blow up kids leaving behind only a pair of smoking wellies- great fun! They always deliver a high quality area.‘ – Sharon Rueben, Head of Artist & Guest Liason,
Festival Republic
Participatory Walkabout / science busking
Walkabout performers engage people with Science Busking activities that they can participate in.
Participatory walkabout info here.
Walkabout can be with or without the Audio Assault Buggy which allows for Nose Testing of families or larger groups, more amplified Noisy Toys to try, and louder speakers!
‘Noisy Toys was a weird and wonderful noisy tent of creative madness in the Future Generation (kids) field in 2012. This year they gave it more of a jam-session focus in the Somewhere field (teenagers’ area). The crew are experts at engagement and find a perfect balance between other-worldly imagination and solid science learning’ – Emily Williams, Area Manager,
Green Man Festival
Shows & science demonstrations
Oobleck Biohazard is a ground-level show all about the dancing cornflour and we do it better than anyone!
Bass in your Face is a stage show with big bass speakers and eruptions of flour and lentils.
Cymatics/Chaldni plate demonstrations are now available
‘Noisy Toys was one of the most popular elements in our large circle of artists at Camp Bestival. We were delighted by their engagement with the public of all ages and they all worked fantastically hard all weekend. The experimenting with sounds and noises was mesmerising to the young people and was stretching their minds with technical invention. If any artform is designed to get young people thinking outside of the box then this one will.’ – Deborah Curtis

We are specialists in engagement and imaginative participation; even our science shows have participatory elements. Our performers and facilitators are experienced, trained and chosen for their ability to impart the spark of passion and enthusiasm that is essential for memorable and fun science communication, or for just having a laugh making some funny noises if that’s your mood!
