Bass Buzz

Experience 1000 watts of bass vibrations through your fingers.

Bass Buzz UK maker Faire

The Bass Buzz is suitable as a stand-alone static feature which is partly a demonstration but mostly a participatory activity. It is often followed by the Oobleck demonstration.

It’s intense, but also very useful for Science Communication. Everyday applications of electromagnetism.

We have Buzzed many thousands of hands and can safely say that it’s an intensely engrossing experience. Some people find the powerful vibrations too much, but most people just say ‘WOOOOOAH!!!’ and ask for more.

The Bass Buzz is used at the end of the Acousatron installation, giving the final ‘Wow!’ to the experience before people leave and return to their quiet, ordered lives.

During the Scavengers workshop the Bass Buzz is used after participants have connected small speaker drivers to batteries and experimented with reversing polarity. This is a key moment in understanding how electromagnetism works and applications in everyday technology.

Then they make the Robot Chicken feedback circuit, which makes a funny squark.

Bass Buzzing occurs as part of the full Acousatron installation, sometimes at the end of the Bass in your Face stage show, during drop-in activities and workshops. The Bass Buzz is an every-popular tingly experience that some people say feels like pins and needles.

The Bass Buzz is an every-popular tingly experience that some people say feels like pins and needles. It helps understanding of sound vibrations, electromagnetism, speaker design, and the frequency/pitch relationship.
