Tech scavenging is right at the heart of a lot of what we do at Noisy Toys. A lot of our instruments and installation features are built from upcycled e-waste and other reclaimed materials. Through our workshops and shows we also share the skills that we have learnt, as well as the joy of upcycling and the satisfaction of building something new from waste (and breaking things).
Unmaking
Like making things, but the other way around.
The simple act of breaking things, carefully, teaches us so much about how things work, how to select and use tools correctly, and how to overcome consumer delusion by cracking open the shiny case and ripping out it’s guts.
Unboxing
Here, dedicated scavengers are carefully obtaining resources from unwanted waste.
In this case, we are looking for small speaker drivers to use in workshops for the Robot Chicken device.
The B-stock passive speakers had been unclaimed on a free shelf in a community centre for 2 years, and were destined for the tip.
